DARMASISWA SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
 
            DARMASISWA is a scholarship program offered by the government of the Republic of Indonesia (RI) to foreign students from countries which have diplomatic relationship with Indonesia to study Bahasa Indonesia, traditional music, traditional dance and Indonesian craft.  The candidate is allowed to decide the higher institutions (universities) which carry out the program.

            This program aims to promote Indonesian culture and the language.  Desiring to expand and intensify mutually beneficial cooperation to the countries which offer scholarship to Indonesian students.  Moreover, it is also used as a media of cultural diplomacy.

            The DARMASISWA RI scholarship program is given to the foreign students who are willing to take a non-degree program.  During the application, the students are not allowed to work, to do research, and to do practical politics activity.
 
I.       PROGRAM OFFERED
1.   Regular 1 (one) Year - Darmasiswa RI scholarship Program
      Regular program is a one-year scholarship program offered to foreign students from countries which have diplomatic relationship with Indonesia to study Indonesian language, traditional music, traditional dance, and Indonesian craft in selected Indonesian Higher Education Institutions.

2.   Short Course 6 (six) Months - Darmasiswa RI scholarship Program

      Short Course program is a six-months scholarship program offered to foreign students from countries which have diplomatic relation with Indonesia to study Bahasa Indonesia in selected Indonesian Higher Education Institutions.

II.      Rights and Duties of the students

1.   Rights of the Students 

a.   Free of tuition fee;
b.   Allowance will provided by the Ministry of National Education;
c.   The participants may seek their universities assistance (from their own university) in finding an accommodation to rent;
d.   The participants will be fetched at the airport on their arrival;

2.   Duties of the Students 
a.   Willing to help the Universities/colleges in academic activities;
b.   To participate in lectures from the beginning of the course until the end;
d.   The participant has to sign a statement of declaration containing obligations of the participants provided by Indonesian Embassy where the participant reside before his/her departure to Indonesia and original signed statement should be submitted to the Ministry of National Education in Indonesia after participant’s arrival in Indonesia.
o        The participant shall not violate the regulations of the higher educational institute in which the student is studying;
o        The participant shall not change either the subject or the place of study prior or upon arrival in Indonesia;
o        The participant shall not violate the legislation of the Republic of Indonesia during the period of study;
o        The participant has to refrain from engaging in political activities or any form of employment for profit or gain;
o        The participant shall not be involved in any misconduct and any form of harassment;
o        The participant shall not travel outside the territory of the Republic of Indonesia during the period of study or more than 1 (one) trip of study period;
o        The participant is not allowed to bring any member of family during study period in Indonesia;
o        The participant will be requested to return to the country of origin in case of violation of the abovementioned regulations as well as procedures for living permit in Indonesia.

III.     Academic Schedule for Regular Program

1.   end of February 2010                          : Application deadline
2.   beginning of March 2010                     : Selection of documents by the Ministry
3.   beginning of April                               : Announcements of selected applicants
4.   beginning of June 2010                       : Confirmation of participation of participants
5.   beginning of August 2010                   : Arrival of participants in Jakarta, Indonesia
6.   beginning of August 2010                   : Introduction to the program
7.   September 2010 to July 2011  :           Lectures/course
8.   Beginning of July 2010                       : Lectures/course for the University of Indonesia
9.   Lectures/course for participants of Short Course Program
      a.      Semester I                               : August 2010 to January 2011
      b.      Semester II                               : February 2011 to July 2011

IV.     VISA ARRANGEMENTS

         Visa used for joining this program is a Short-Visit Visa (VITAS) that can be obtained through the Embassy of Republic of Indonesia where the participants live. This visa should be converted to Stay-Permit for 1 (one) year upon arrival in Indonesia through the Immigration Office where the participants study 

         The participants are prohibited to use the Tourist Visa to study in Indonesia, since it will have effect in processing the Stay-Permit

V.      ACCOMODATION

The Ministry of National Education will not provide the accommodation for the participants.

VI.     COVERAGE OF SCHOLARSHIP

         Monthly allowance will be received by the participants is RP 1.500.000,00 (one million and five hundred thousand rupiah).
         The participant is advised to bring enough money in US dollar for unexpected additional expenses in Indonesia.

VII.    PROCEDURE TO APPLY FOR DARMASISWA PROGRAMS

1.       The applicant can fill out application forms which are available at the Indonesian Embassy or Consulate General in the country of residence. 
2.       The applicant can apply online using the following address: www.darmasiswa.diknas.go.id.  In case the applicants apply online, he/she should notify the Indonesian Embassy or Consulate General. 

VIII.   QUALIFICATIONS OF APPLICANTS 

            Applicants should submit an application form which has to be completed with other letters of:

1.   Fill out application form;
2.   Completed Secondary Education or its equivalent;
3.   A copy of the academic transcript;
4.   Not more than 35 years old;
5.   In good health as proven by Medical Certificate;
6.   Photos sized 4x6 sm (5 pieces);
7.   A copy of passport valid for at least 18 more months after the date of participants’ arrival in Indonesia;
8.   Good knowledge of English.

         Applicant, who resides in Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Kazakhstan, should submit the application forms and above mentioned required documents in four copies, to the following address:

IX.     TRAVEL TO INDONESIA

         The Government of the Republic of Indonesia, Department of Foreign Affairs and the Bureau of Planning and International Cooperation and the Ministry of National Education of the Republic of Indonesia will not cover expenses for the international round trip airway ticket of the applicants.  The Ministry of National Education of the Republic of Indonesia provides transportation from Jakarta to the place of study in Indonesia.  But the expenses from the place of study in Indonesia to Jakarta are on expenses of the participants.

X.      Health Insurance

The Ministry of National Education (MoNE) will not provide health insurance; therefore the participants are expected to have the International insurance.
